Biography

Dave Johnson is in his fourth year as the Assistant Dean for Communications at the University of Illinois College of Law, coordinating public relations and marketing efforts for one of the nation's premier public law schools. During the past three years, College of Law faculty members have been increasingly in demand by local, regional, and national media outlets and have collectively averaged more than 60 interviews per month, including regular appearances on national media outlets such as CNN, USA Today, NBC, MSNBC, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and Los Angeles Times.

In partnership with local CBS-TV affiliate, WCIA, the College also produces a biweekly 30-minute television show, "Illinois Law" that tackles legal topics and features faculty, students, and alumni. Dave serves as Executive Producer of the show which also airs in statewide syndication on the Illinois Channel. Dave has been with the University of Illinois in a variety of public relations and marketing capacities since 1988. He has produced television and radio programming for nearly 20 years, including stints with ESPN, SportsChannel, and Fox Sports.

A Champaign native, Dave received his B.A. in Communications from the University of Illinois in 1986 and his M.S. in Sport Management from the United States Sports Academy in 1987. He served on the Champaign County Board for six years, including two years as Human Services Committee Chairman and has been active in many community organizations, including Little League, Boy Scouts, Champaign Rotary Club and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He and his wife, Laurie, a math teacher at Champaign Centennial High School, have three children.
